We're proud to spotlight Brendan Luce, our summer intern from Penn State Behrend, who brought exceptional energy and insight to our team at Beaumont Advanced Processing (BAP).
Brendan is a senior majoring in Polymer Engineering and Science with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. Beyond the lab, you'll find him running track for Behrend or out on the disc golf course with friends and family.
Brendan chose BAP for our 25+ years of consistent growth and expansion, plus the opportunity to work closely with a team where every person's contributions truly matter. He was also drawn to our strong partnership with Penn State Behrend, where John Beaumont helped develop the Plastics Engineering Technology program and the associated plastics laboratory.
Brendan's journey into plastics began with a pivotal conversation. After spending hours with Dr. Gregory Dillan, the former Chair of the Polymer Engineering and Science program at Penn State Behrend, exploring the science behind polymers and their real-world applications, realized this field was exactly where he belonged, leading him to change his major from mechanical engineering.
The laughter shared with teammates and other moments of connection made his experience memorable. He wasn't given busy work that no one wants to do. He was given real responsibilities alongside experienced professionals who took time to teach him the WHY behind every new concept and test.
Brendan's experience reinforced something important: you don't need the biggest spotlight to make the biggest difference. Working behind the scenes with our clients, he saw firsthand how a committed team can create meaningful impact for companies across the industry. In his own words: "It was cool to see all the companies we were helping behind the scenes, and how cool it was to see a smaller division like BAP could make a huge difference..."
His advice to students considering internships in this field: Find a place that treats you like part of the team from day one. Look for work that matters and people who genuinely care about your growth.
Brendan, thank you for the dedication, curiosity, and positive spirit you brought to BAP this summer. We're excited to see where your career in plastics takes you!
To students exploring opportunities in plastics and materials science, this industry needs problem-solvers like Brendan who are eager to learn, contribute, and make a difference. We're grateful to play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of engineers.
