Today, Beaumont is celebrating Scott Reynolds' career and retirement. Scott has been a Toolmaker in our tooling division of Beaumont Advanced Processing (BAP). Having started in the trade in 1981, Scott has seen the industry transition from hand-machining to modern CNC technology, bringing decades of practical knowledge to our team. We asked him a few questions about his career as a toolmaker:
Q: What type of work or specific project are you most proud of?
Scott: "I started in this trade in 1981, back before we had CNC machines and everything was done by hand. I have seen a lot of changes since then. I'm most proud of those early projects from the '80s and '90s. We built many molds for Whirley DrinkWorks and Kane Magnetics. Kane's tolerances were the strictest I’ve ever worked with. It was always a great feeling to send those tools out and know the customer was happy."
Q: Do you have any favorite memories you'd like to share?
Scott: "I remember being very nervous about starting a particular operation on a project early on. My boss told me, 'Just start it. The worst that could happen is we have to weld it.' From that point on, I was never afraid to tackle any job."
Q: What is the most useful lesson you learned on the job that you would pass on to those coming into the industry?
Scott: "Do your best to figure things out on your own, but never be afraid to ask for help; a true team player will always lend a hand. Never say you can’t do something without trying it first. I still surprise myself from time to time by simply accepting a challenge. It will make you a better toolmaker and a better person."
Q: What will you miss most about your job, and what are you looking forward to in retirement?
Scott: "I will mostly miss the problem-solving aspect of the job, but I won't miss the sore back and feet! In retirement, I plan to play golf, fish, shoot my bow, and do some mountain biking. My wife retires next year, and we are looking forward to traveling and seeing places we’ve always wanted to visit, like Yellowstone."
All your hard work is valued and appreciated. Thank you for your commitment and the experience you brought to help us grow. We wish the best for Scott in his retirement! We hope you and your wife have many great adventures and enjoy visiting so many beautiful places.
